Social Media and Its Bad Effects on Young Students

Dhaka, April 30: Social media, especially Facebook, has become very popular among young students in Bangladesh. Many students use it every day for chatting, sharing pictures, and watching videos. However, it also has some harmful effects on their lives.
Firstly, excessive use of Facebook wastes a lot of valuable time. Students often spend hours scrolling instead of studying or doing homework. As a result, their academic performance becomes poor. Secondly, it affects their mental health. Seeing others’ happy posts may make them feel unhappy or jealous. Some students also become addicted to likes and comments.
Moreover, Facebook sometimes exposes students to harmful content such as violence or false information. It can also lead to cyberbullying, where students are teased or harassed online. This can make them feel sad and lonely.
In addition, spending too much time on social media reduces physical activity. Students do not play outdoor games, which is not good for their health.
Therefore, students should use Facebook carefully and for a limited time. Parents and teachers should guide them properly so that they can use social media in a positive way.
