Class 9 English - Opinion Matters | Lesson 1.1.1 - National Monument | Class 9 Illustration 2
We've discussed class nine English chapter 1, "Opinion Matters" based on 2024 class nine English book published by National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
This lesson is intended for Bangladeshi students who are in class nine. This lesson covers exercise 1.1.1 on page 2 that includes image 2 - National Martyrs' Monument.
Answer of the IMAGE 2
The Fact:
This image depicts our National Martyrs' Memorial is popularly known as Jatiyo Smriti Shoudho which is the national monument of Bangladesh. It was built not only to honour who died during the War of Liberation and Genocide in 1971 but also and remember the historical struggle for getting independence and sovereignty . The National Martyrs' Memorial is considered to be one of the most beautiful monuments.
The National Martyrs' Memorial is located in Savar, about 35 km north-west of the capital city, Dhaka. The beautiful monument was designed by Syed Mainul Hossain and constructed by Concord Group. Though the construction started in 1978, the main structure and the artificial lake and other facilities were completed in 1982. The National Martyrs' Memorial was Inaugurated on16 December 1982.
The monument is composed of seven isosceles triangular which is pyramid-shaped structures, with the middle one being the tallest. The highest point of the monument is 150 feet.
Each of these seven pairs of walls symbolizes the seven stages of the national movement leading to the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, namely
i) the Language Movement in 1952
ii) provincial election victory of the United Front in 1954
iii) the Constitution Movement in 1956
iv) the movement against the Education Commission in 1962
v) the Six point movement in 1966
vi) the Mass Uprising in 1969
vii) the Independence War in 1971,
At the center of it, there is an eternal flame which indicates the spirit of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Bangladesh during the Liberation War.
My thoughts on National Martyrs' Memorial
The National Martyrs' Monument represents the stories of heroism and sacrifice in our liberation war and acts as a guardian of our history. If I visited this special place specially on victory day, I would show solidarity with fellow citizens. I would also pay tribute to the heroes who fought for our freedom. Capturing photographs of the special moments, I would proudly share the photos on social media to spread the monument's historical significance to the world.
