A short composition on Uses and Abuses of Computer for the students and candidates

Uses and Abuses of Computer
The computer is one of the greatest inventions of modern science. It has completely changed the way we live, think, study, and work. Today, a computer is found everywhere, from schools and offices to banks, hospitals, factories, and even our homes. It is impossible to imagine the modern world without computers because they save time, reduce effort, and make life more comfortable.
A computer has many uses. First of all, it has remarkable importance in education. Students use computers to search information, prepare assignments, and attend online classes. Through the Internet, they can read digital books, watch educational videos, and communicate with teachers from any place. In Bangladesh, e-learning became extremely popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, proving the value of computers in continuity of education.
The computer is also widely used in business. Banks use computers to maintain accounts, transfer money, and manage records accurately. Shops and companies use computers to keep inventory, advertise products, and communicate with customers. Factories use computer-controlled machines to produce goods quickly and with greater precision. The government also uses computers to maintain national ID cards, birth registrations, tax collection, and many other administrative services.
Moreover, computers provide entertainment. People watch movies, listen to music, play games, and stay connected with friends and family through social media. Doctors use computers to diagnose diseases, store medical reports, and perform advanced surgeries. Scientists and engineers use computers to design bridges, rockets, and new technologies.
However, computers also have abuses that may harm users or society. Many students waste valuable time playing harmful online games or scrolling aimlessly on social media. Continuous use of screens can damage eyesight, reduce concentration, and create addiction. Sometimes people use computers for cybercrimes such as hacking, stealing money, spreading false news, or cyberbullying. These crimes destroy trust and cause mental and financial harm to others.
Overdependence on computers can also make people physically inactive. Many young people sit for long hours instead of playing outside or meeting friends in person. As a result, they suffer from obesity, stress, and loneliness. Another problem is job loss. When computers and robots do the work of humans, some workers lose their employment and face economic difficulties.
In conclusion, the computer is a blessing if we use it wisely and a curse if we use it wrongly. We should learn proper computer skills and apply them for education and development. At the same time, we must avoid misuse and maintain a balance between real life and digital life. If used positively, the computer will continue to be one of the greatest tools for progress and human welfare.
